It has been awhile fellow stitchers so let me try to catch you up.
Many members have been adding their WIP's and finished pieces to the DVHSG Facebook page which is good but it is not the same as getting together. (This page is open to anyone but you will need to get moderator approval.) So what did we do......we had a Zoom Meeting this morning.
First, many thanks to Evalyn G. and her tech savvy husband for working with President Linda D. to get this meeting set-up and make it happen. I think we had close to 40 participate this morning and it was great to see all the smiling faces we haven't seen for awhile. Not only the regular meeting attendees but we also had participants from Tennessee, Kansas, Connecticut and Luxemburg! We went international! Wahoo! That part of the Zoom meeting was a nice bonus for all of us.
To say the least it was a bit of a learning curve for some of us, myself included. Everyone was so helpful and guided those of us who were first-time users to the necessary menus. We learned to "raise our hands" when we had something to say, learned to use voting buttons and only had two or three cat sightings as pets walked in front of their owner's screens.
President Linda D. opened the meeting and welcomed all. She shared a powerpoint that started with an agenda for the meeting and moved into a Show N' Tell slide show where stitchers spoke about their pieces. Thank you to all who provided Linda with photos prior to the meeting. Watch for emails about future Zoom meetings dates with instructions and deadlines for submitting photos. Caryl will be uploading today's powerpoint to Facebook.
First on the agenda, elections are scheduled for this fall. The two offices on this fall's ballot are Vice President/Program Director and Treasurer. Linda shared two options for the upcoming elections.
a. Due to Covid, we can vote to waive the required elections and extend the office terms by one year; or
b. We can select a Nominating Committee and continue with the elections as scheduled.
Both members currently holding offices have agreed to stay on for the next term. A motion was made and voting was done by using the "yes" or "no" voting boxes in Zoom. (Aren't we getting snazzy?) Themotion was carried to have the current officers extend their current terms by one year.
Programming
Betsy Morgan Class - If you signed up to participate in the Betsy Morgan class that was scheduled for April 2020, Stacy sent you an email yesterday regarding how you would like to handle getting your kit. Please reply to Stacy in the next couple of days so she can arrange to meet you or will mail your kit to you.
Fall Retreat - Stacy will be following up with an email to those who have signed up. She will provide cost and payment due date. This year, because of Covid, the Retreat will be in the Lodge. There will be no stitching in the Lobby of the Lankford. Masks must be worn, hand sanitizing will be necessary, etc. Stacy will provide all the details in her email to those attending.
Holiday Smalls Exchange - The exchange is still on for 2020 whether we are meeting or not in December. In the event we are still unable to meet in person, ideas were discussed about either exchanging names and mailing your items to the person who's name you get or delaying the exchange until we meet again and hold it as a program at a future meeting. No final decision was made.
Anniversary Event - No date has been set forthe 20th Anniversary Event. Stacy has been in touch with the designer and the designer has agreed to hold the design as exclusive to DVHSG for one year after she presents it at our Anniversary Celebration.
Stacy asked if anyone has a hobby or collection they would like to share at an upcoming Zoom meeting. Please let her know. A video can be made in advance of the meeting and then forwarded to Linda D. to put on the agenda. Details can be arranged if you decide to share a collection.
Other Class Opportunities
Purple Thread - Sharon Verbos - Sharon is teaching a 3-day Zoom Class in association with Winterthur. The class cost is $60 for the kit and an additional $30 for the 3 days of Zoom classes. The classes will be three consecutive Saturdays. See DVHGS Facebook page or Sharon's Facebook page for more information.
Sassy Jack's - Kim Young - Sassy Jack's is scheduling a Zoom Retreat. It is a three-day event on a Friday-Satruday-Sunday in September. The sessions can be watched live and will be recorded to be available to watch when convenient to you. See Sassy Jack's website for more information.
Great news! Linda has spoken to Cokesbury and AFTER restrictions are lifted at Cokesbury we are still able to have the use of the room at Cokesbury for our monthly meetings.
Conservation Fund - Ann S. has suggested our Conservation Fund donation this year be made to Winterthur and be earmarked towards the purchase of the antique sampler in memory of Gloria Seaman Allen. This was approved by members attending.
Membership - Caryl C. will be sending a membership roster with the next newsletter. Please check your information for correctness and let Caryl know if there are any errors. All newsletters are now available in the file section on our Facebook page. The membership roster WILL NOT be filed on Facebook for privacy reasons.
2020 Challenge - Patrick reminded everyone to maintain their list of completed projects in 2020 and be ready to add them to the list in the binder when we finally do meet again. Maybe you can find a piece of 3-holed notebook paper for your list and you will be able to slip it right in the binder when the time comes.
Upcoming - We discussed having a Zoom Stitch-in. Information will be sent when details are worked out. If you have any other Zoom meeting ideas while we remain under the pandemic restrictions, please pass them to Linda D.
The Zoom meeting was so well attended and with such positive feedback that there is a tentative Zoom meeting for September. Watch your email for a notice closer to the date.
Thank you tot he Board for deciding to have the Zoom meeting. Thank you again to Evalyn and her hubby for making this happen. And for Linda for running the meeting and creating the slide show. Great job.
Hope all are keeping well and continue to stay healthy.
