December 2012 Monthly Meeting

We held our holiday exchange at our December Meeting.   (Please click on the  page above to see all the goodies)  In addition to the great exchange smalls and ornaments, members shared some of their handiwork at our December meeting.

BJ SanClemente shared the needlework bear completed.   The project offered a variety of themes and stitches to use but the stitcher does the designing.   This is BJ's second bear and each one is a masterpiece to behold.

Here's a look at the completed stitching before the
assembly process started.
Pat Lerch was nice enough to give the guild a blackwork demonstration in June or July of 2012.   She provided a 15-side biscournu pattern for those interested in trying their hand at blackwork.  We all took off in different directions with the count and color of fabric, color of floss and buttons.   Once the pre-stitching was completed, Robin Thompson shared instructions on assembly.  It was fun to see all the different versions.    No two were alike.
Pat was clever using a different color fabric for each square.

Pat was also just back from eight weeks in Africa visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.   She shared some baskets and other crafts made by the local woman.

These rag rugs are another skill the women of the village are taught in order to give them a skill and help them to earn an income.

Here's another interesting stitch.   Pat Y. participating in a postcard exchange.   The difference is that you stitch your postcard or envelope.   I don't have a picture of Pat's handiwork but look at arrived in the mail addressed to her!    Pretty cool, cancelled stamp and all.
